Video: Las Vegas drive-in keeps on rolling

KLAS, Las Vegas’s News Leader, ran a video love letter to the Las Vegas Drive-In Theater, run by West Wind. I wish I could embed that video here, but you’ll have to click a link to see the full story or just the video.

The North Las Vegas opened in 1966, and the video mentions that it’s the oldest around Las Vegas. As far as I know, it’s the only drive-in around Las Vegas; the only other Nevada ozoner is in Sparks near Reno. But for three minutes of great behind-the-scenes video, I’ll forgive KLAS for not making that distinction. Go check it out!

Video: News crew takes families to Sapulpa’s TeePee

The Tee Pee Drive-In in Sapulpa OK is my guiding light sometimes. When I get depressed about drive-in closures, the Teepee reminds me that renewal is possible. Under the right owners, half-derelict drive-in theaters can come back to life with modern amenities and respect for the past.

So I enjoyed it even more than usual when the news crew at KOTV, Tulsa’s News Leader, took their families to the TeePee to see how much fun a December visit can be. The only drawback to the loving 3+ minutes of video they posted is that, unlike most news videos a few years ago, I can’t embed it here. Please go enjoy it on the KOTV page for yourself.

Video: Blue Fox bumps up Christmas Village experience

The Blue Fox Drive-In Theater in Oak Harbor WA reopened its Christmas Village with 100,000 more lights and lots of other stuff. At least that’s what was reported in the South Whidbey Record.

What’s even better for us is that the Blue Fox folks posted a YouTube video short, embedded above. That’s where I saw a cool feature of the village, not mentioned in the article, that you can only get at a drive-in — a Yule log video playing on the huge screen in the background. I hope that more drive-ins get the message that this is a fine way to give back to the community and earn a few December bucks at the snack bar.
