The Teton Valley News wrote about the Spud Drive-In (Driggs ID) and its need to upgrade to a digital projection system. The article quotes the manager as saying a new projector would cost around $6500, which sounds to me like the reporter or somebody forgot one of the zeroes. Anyway, the cool thing about this is that the Spud is selling “I (heart) the Spud” T-shirts to raise money. And the other cool thing is just the name itself; who couldn’t love the Spud?

Cottage View Drive-In is closing
The Cottage View Drive-In in Cottage Grove MN is closing because the owners didn’t want to lay out at least $70k for digital projector equipment. I think we’re going to be hearing that refrain all too often this fall. Anyway, the Minneapolis StarTribune had a nice story about it.
UPDATE: Who’s going to build on the drive-in’s land? Walmart, the usual suspect.
Admiral Twin bounces back from screen fire
Now here’s some good news! The Admiral Twin Drive-In (Tulsa OK) reopened this June after a fire destroyed its wooden screen in September 2010. (I love its motto: This time we’re going to build it out of steel, cause we ain’t gonna do this fire crap again!)
According to the Tulsa World, business has been solid since it reopened, and the Admiral Twin is extending its season this year until Halloween “if people keep coming out and the weather’s not bad.” Be sure to click through even if it’s just to see Michael Wyke’s great photo of the drive-in at twilight.
Update: Archive.org has a 15-second news clip of the fire here.
